The Trail of Promising Practices for Indigenous Youth-led Social Change

More Than Words

2025

In 2025, the Participatory Cultures Lab at McGill University partnered with Encore Graphics to design More Than Words' The Trail of Promising Practices for Indigenous Youth-led Social Change (La Voie des Pratiques Prometteuses pour un Changement Social mené par les Jeunes Autochtones), a guide highlighting arts-based approaches to engaging Indigenous youth in addressing critical community issues, including sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in English and French. Grounded in ongoing work with Indigenous girls and young women across Canada, the guide explores youth-centred spaces that support young people as critical knowers, makers, and leaders in envisioning and enacting social change. The design was inspired by this mission - balancing creativity and clarity to serve both youth and academic audiences - resulting in a layout that is fun, colourful, and highly organized. Visual elements such as friendship bracelet motifs were incorporated to reflect contemporary youth culture, reinforcing themes of connection, collaboration, and youth leadership at the heart of the project.
